The day of remand centres and prisons — a professional holiday of all employees of remand centres (SIZOs) and the Russian Federation. This date is celebrated in Russia on October 31 each year.

September 14, 2006 year, the head of the Federal service of execution of punishments Yury Ivanovich Kalinin signed the order, according to which 31 October declared a professional holiday — day of remand centres and prisons.

Date for a "day of employees of remand centres and prisons" was not chosen randomly: October 31, 1963 onwards the collegiate organ of the Ministry of public order of the RUSSIAN SFSR decided to establish detention facilities in the Soviet Union, as a new type of institutions the penal system.

This holiday is relatively young and therefore "day of remand centres and prisons" have not yet formed any holiday traditions and specific institutions does not allow for any lush celebration, but some Russian prison in this day allowed inside journalists and show them a camera and punishment cells in which once served a sentence or other famous personalities.
