Day of the lifting of the siege of the city of Leningrad (the year 1944) notes in accordance with the Federal law of March 13, 1995 year no. 32-FZ "on days of military glory (victorious days).

In the year 1941 Hitler launched military operations on the outskirts of Leningrad to completely destroy the city. The Soviet command organized offensive forces 2-5th shock, 42-ND and 67th army of the Leningrad, 59-th, 8th and 54th army of the Volkhov, 1-th shock and 22nd army 2-th Baltic fronts and the red banner Baltic fleet. Also involved long-distance aircraft, guerrilla units and brigades.

The aim of the operation was to destroy flanking grouping 18th army, and then actions at kingiseppskom and the Luga directions to complete the defeat of its main forces and reach the boundary of the river Luga.
