Tatiana's day is a day honoring the Roman Tatiany. Once in the year 1755 by Empress Elizabeth Petrovna signed the Decree on the opening of Moscow University, "Tatyana's day" was celebrated as the birthday of the first University, and later as a holiday for all students.
The history of the holiday
12 January (Julian calendar) year 1755 — commemoration day of the Holy Martyr Tatiany and in the name of Ivan Shuvalov's mother is a Russian Empress Elizabeth approved petition Shuvalov and signed a decree on the opening of Moscow University, which was subsequently the center of the Russian advanced culture and social thought.
Subsequently, in one of the wings of the old building of the University was established by the House Church of the Holy Martyr Tatiany and the Holy patron declared all Russian students.
In memory of the day of signing the Decree annually the University celebrated the Tatyana's day (12 January in the Julian calendar, the Gregorian calendar in the 20th-21ST centuries — 25 January).
Since 2005 year 25 January is celebrated in Russia as the day of Russian students
