Description

From 8 February 1812 onwards, with the Special Decree of Alexander I, when it was adopted "regulations on military topographical reality", this day is celebrated as the date of origin of topographic service of the Russian armed forces, a powerful military-technical service responsible for one of the most important types of operational (combat) for modern military action — topogeodezicheskoe.

The structure created by Imperial Decree, changed its status. In our days it is military-topographic Directorate of the General staff of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
