The day of Russian Science
Description
The day of Russian Science February 8 was established by Decree of the President of Russia no. 717 dated June 7, 1999 year on establishing the Day of Russian science.
This holiday is timed to coincide with the year of Foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, established at the behest of Emperor Peter I of the Decree of the Senate on 28 January (8 February new style) 1724 onwards.
In the USSR the science day was celebrated on the third Sunday of April, since in 1918 year between 18 and 25 April, Lenin composed the Sketch plan of scientific-technical works, which was the actual recognition of the scientific Councils. To this day many scientific teams celebrate science day "old style", i.e. in the third Sunday of April (in 2012 year holiday falls on April 15).
